Purchasing with Purpose partners are mapping US businesses that prioritize people and the planet.
This initiative brings together social enterprises, cooperatives, not-for-profit businesses, fair trade enterprises, benefit corporations, steward-owned companies, post-growth enterprises, regenerative businesses, green businesses, independent businesses, and more.
The report provides a snapshot of the US landscape during the first half of 2025 and is based on a nationwide survey and interviews with enterprises, networks, purchasers, and investors.
This mapping initiative was the first of its kind. It focused on enterprises that have a social or environmental purpose, earn revenue through self-sustaining business models, reinvest the majority of profits, and have structures that protect their purpose over time. These enterprises can be difficult to find in the US because different terminology is used in different networks, regions, and sectors.
